Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Boston University Hillel as the Engagement Fellow. You will build one on one relationships with students, plan and execute engaging events and programs around campus, and help inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life. This is a big, exciting job for BU Hillel, delivering impact to 4,000 Jewish students, the largest population at a private school in the world.

This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of a cohort of other engagement focused staff Fellows. This position asks for a 2-year commitment to this position and BU Hillel.

You’ll receive training from BU Hillel and Hillel International professionals, and learn from Jewish leaders on how to seamlessly weave Judaism into your work as a Hillel engagement professional. Each day you will be charged with empowering students to engage in meaningful and joyous Jewish lives, weaving in Jewish values, texts, and history.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage Hillel’s on campus marketing and outreach programs including monthly pop up events and give-a-ways
  • Handle all outreach and relationships with first-year students, and the prospective/admitted student population
  • Strengthen and support student leadership cohorts, such as: Coffee Crew Engagement Interns, Student Leadership and Nonprofit Management Fellows and more
  • Mentor various students in their leadership development and life goals
  • Grow Hillel’s capacity to meet engagement goals through detailed management and analysis of CRM Database
  • Assist in increasing the quality and quantity of student 1x1’s
  • Facilitate in partnership with a Senior Jewish Educator in our award winning Jewish Learning Fellowship program

What You’ll Bring to the Job

We are most interested in someone who is organized, driven, and mission focused.  The most important experience we are looking for is the ability to be a Jewish leader, organize people and projects, and the ability to inspire commitment and action.

  • Bachelors degree, 0-3 years professional experience or strong collegiate internships/fellowships experience
  • Energy, excitement, passion, and love of Judaism, Jewish people, and Israel
  • Confidence initiating and running programs, and comfort asking questions.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel.
  • Excitement to continue developing your own relationship to Judaism.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse demographics of college students
  • Attention to detail in written/verbal communication and in active listening to students/colleagues
  • Desire to motivate student leaders to engage their peers, deepen their Jewish identities, and think innovatively about program content and marketing
  • This is an in-person role location in Boston, Mass; remote work is not available for this position

As an Engagement Fellow, a Typical Day May Include

  • Meeting with a group of students or individual students over coffee or a meal to understand which issues are most important to them and developing a plan of action together.
  • Planning educational, social, or cultural programs across a wide variety student audiences
  • Participating in a conversation with student leaders of all types of faith, ethnic, and racial backgrounds to build key relationships and partnerships
  • Develop key insights through 1x1 conversation in how to create an engagement program with high levels of reach and depth
  • Working Shabbat, holidays, and otherwise supporting the rest of your Hillel team - some times on nights and weekends.
  • Participating in a professional development webinar.
  • Recruiting for an upcoming student programs and internships.
